You Asked?

Juice versus Kits?

Since we opened our doors in 1992, our customers have taken home more than 2 million bottles of their favourite Brew Kettle beers. If you haven’t yet experienced the pleasure of brewing your own, try a batch and see why the Brew Kettle is York Region’s brewing centre!

Making beer is fun and easy, and saves you money. Because you pay much less tax when you brew your own, you can save up to half the price of commercial brews. We have many popular styles to choose from, and it is also easy to customize a brew. With a variety of batch sizes and brewing processes, we cater to any level of experience. Most customers prefer to let our staff do the cooking, but if you would like to produce your own batch from scratch we will show you how to measure the ingredients and prepare the wort in our steam-heated kettles. It is easy to do, and you will proudly tell your friends that:

“Actually, I made it myself!”

What does the beer taste like? That depends on the specific beer you choose, but our recipes are formulated to produce beer similar in taste to popular commercial beer styles. (See the back page for information on the basics of beer.) In fact, many customers tell us they prefer the taste of their all-natural Brew Kettle beer! Start with a familiar taste, and then expand your beer horizons by tapping into the huge range of tastes available. We think, however, that the best flavours come from the full-mash boxed wort, and from the partial-mash kettle brews, and we encourage you to invest the extra week and the few extra dollars for one of these brews.

We hope to see you soon, at the Brew Kettle. Cheers!
Geoff Barley!

Our Brewing Processes

Beer is brewed by boiling selected ingredients in a kettle. In our original brewing process the basic ingredients are malt extracts, adjunct sugars, and hops. The premium brews in this category add a bag of specialty grains to the kettle for additional colour and flavour. The time required to measure and brew these beers is about 75 minutes.

After a decade of brewing, we looked at all the beers we had made over the years and worked the list down to a set of essential styles that allow us to match some of the more distinctive tastes that the beer world has to offer. Then we improved our recipes, using process changes and more ingredients to come as close as we could to the traditional tastes of these styles. All of these beers can be brewed in 2 hours.

Some of our beers can also be brewed with a partial mash process that uses a large grain basket, with as much as 5 kilos of malt, to add fermentable sugars to the wort. Adjunct sugars are not used, except for colour and flavour. The mash time is about an hour and the boiling time is longer, making the total brewing time about 3 hours.
You can now also make a batch from a high-quality pre-brewed wort; the Brew House brand from RJ Spagnols, or the Festa Brew brand from Magnotta. These are all-grain, full-mash boxed worts that you start in just 5 minutes.

Keeping Your Beers

All Brew Kettle beers are natural beers, and are not pasteurized or chemically preserved. They should be enjoyed within three months of bottling if kept cool and dark, or sooner if they are stored at room temperature.

Please ask us if you have any questions about how to store your Brew Kettle beer.

Keg Rentals

If you are planning a party, ask about our keg rentals. You make your favourite Brew Kettle beer, and take it home in one or more of our kegs. We provide the pump, and a barrel you can fill with ice to keep your beer cold. It’s easy and a lot of fun to serve friends your own fresh beer from the tap! The cost is just $10 per keg for the rental.

White Labs liquid yeasts are recommended for the all-grain boxed wort (Brew House and Festa Brew brands) or the partial mash brews. Liquid yeasts add more to the flavour profile, and provide more differentiation between the beer styles.

Please phone ahead so we can bring it out of the freezer.

White Labs yeasts are $10.
